A SNORKELLER aged in his 20s has died after being pulled unconscious from waters at Separation Creek, off the Great Ocean Road.

Police said the man had been snorkelling with a group of men before he died shortly after 1pm Sunday.

“The man was snorkelling with a group when he became separated and was located in the water deceased around 1.30pm,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

“Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.”

It’s unclear whether the man was diving with friends or a tour group.

Never nice to hear - I dived the island and had a look at a few spots on the east coast today and it was interesting - I think west side should have been pretty gnarly...surely no commercial tour group would take people out in that.

was he pushing it in shit conditions due to it being an Ab open day??? Hope not, but it wouldn't be the first fatality put down to that since the 60 days came in.

Either way, its a timely reminder to stay safe in the water and dive well within your limits in conditions that suit your experience.

I was in that area on the Saturday looking for some spots for future reference (under the guise of a day out with the girlfriend). It was pretty rough to say the least. high southerly winds and swell around 1.5m.

Not the day to be in the water, not even marginally.
