Are there any shore dives that could give me access to some kelp beds around the Melbourne area?

I read that between Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff there is a drift dive along some kelp forests. Would this be accessible from the shore, and if so, from which point exactly? Cottage by the Sea in Queenscliff? I reckon there will be some good crays, abalone, and fish around here.

Would there also be any more kelp forests elsewhere? Geelong? Altona? Black Rock?

there are NO kelp forests any more off Queenscliff. And none further up the bay either. And none anymore along the Peninsula Ocean beaches.

The last kelp forest that I remember swimming through in Vic was Apollo Bay bout 20yrs ago and I havent been there since.....so don't know if it's still around. By no means wasn't anything large scale from what I remember.

Crap.

Well, any shore dive locations / entry points around that area to get abs and maybe crays?

My friends want to camp down there but they don't dive. I want to supply some abs for our dinner. I can't drive the 3 or 4 hours to Point Fairy.

I'm just traveling from America and I've never dove around that area. Don't have a wetsuit. No gun. No boat. But I have my mask, snorkel, fins, and some mittens from skiing.

Abs you can find practically anywhere there is rock and vegetation in the bay or ocean. Cray's your best bet is an ocean beach which is rocky. Just make sure you abide by the vic fishing regulations when going for Abs and Cray's.
