Hi All,

On Tuesday night we had our first club meeting for the dive season (and since the new committee was voted in). This was at the new venue (Club Noble) was good to see some regular faces and some new attendees.
After a few people grabbed a meal in the bistro (and some ducking out to the pokies), everyone headed up to the function room. While the committee had a chat downstairs, Ric put up some pictures via the projector and gave a brief talk about his recent trip to Indonesia chasing pelagics, including wahoo and dogtooth tuna. Thanks for doing that Ric.

VSC Representitive
We kicked off the formal part of the meeting with asking for volunteers for the recently vacated VSC representitive role. Joel P put up his hand for this and with his help, hopefully we can build a good relationship with the VSC and other clubs to promote/build spearfishing in victoria. Thanks to Fitzy that performed this role previously. We appreciate the effort you put into the role.

AUF Membership
Geoff also gave an overview of the benifits of having AUF membership in relation to having governing bodies to give spearfishers a voice in the fishing comunity. He also outlined the insurance when attending club events/dives.
For more information on this, refer to the following links.

Shipwrecked Coast Skindivers
We have been advised by Pete Riddle, that the Shipwrecked Coast Skindivers club from Port Fairy will be disbanding due to lack of volunteers needed to run the club. Pete and Tania put in a lot of effort over the years to run the club towards building a bigger spearfishing community in western victoria and we all appreciate the time and effort put in over the years. We invite the existing members to join another spearfishing club and we welcome anyone that would like to join the Southern Freedivers.
What does this mean for the existing inter-club competitions?
The Western Districts competition that is part of our regular competition season will still be held, however both days will now be run by the Southern Freedivers, with day 1 still counting towards the SFD competition aggregate.
In relation to the Bluefin battle that ran for the past 2 seasons, the Southern Freedivers will be taking this competition onboard and scheduling this sometime around March. The exact date will be scheduled in one of the spare weeks.

Club Trip - South Coast NSW
We have started to plan the yearly club trip and are planning to head up around Eden NSW on grand final long weekend. As it will be during VIC and NSW school holidays, we are trying to find if there are any campsites available and will post up the options and pricing. We will put up a seperate post in the next few days, so please respond to that if you are interested in going.

Sorrento Boat Comp and Christmas Party
We have decided to try and merge the Sorrento boat comp and southern freedivers christmas party and are looking for available campsites around Rye foreshore. We will put up a seperate post in the next few days, so please respond to that if you are interested in staying over that weekend.

1st Competition (non-aggregate) - Pairs Competition
The first competition is the first Southern Freedivers event and is scheduled for 24th September (weather permitting). This is a pairs comp and is aimed at promoting safe spearfishing by encouraging divers to monitor their partners on each dive. We will be pairing up more experienced divers with novices to ensure the competition is fair and novices can learn from experienced divers. We will post up more details closer to the date.

Vic Challenge
We reminded everyone that the VIC challenge has officially started. There are some good salmon and squid around at the moment, so its a good opportunity to kick off the tally. Winter is officially over, so the fish life will improve over the coming months. Keep an eye on the Victorian Challenge post on the competitions section each month, as the updated tally will be posted there.

Raffle Prize for Juniors
Legendary Skindiving Equipment announces an exciting prize for divers under the age of 18 participating in the 2017-2018 Southern Freedivers competition season.
The prize is a kit of best quality TORELLI gear consisting of a Wetsuit (choice of any Camo and thickness), a pair of Serpent Carbon Fins (choice of stiffness) and an Ammo Speargun (choice of length).
Each competition heat entered by the young diver gains 1 ticket to the draw at the Southern Freedivers presentation night.
The more heats entered during the season by the junior increases their chance, for example if the junior participates in all 11 competition heats they get 11 tickets in the draw or only 3 heats they have 3 tickets in the draw. This Legendary Skindiving Equipment promotion is to encourage junior participation. The scores have no bearing on this prize.

So for all the juniors that haven't signed up yet, remember to visit the AUF website AUF Website to sign up.
