Hi,
I’ll be on the Peninsula for a week or so around
Xmas (visiting my son), hoping to get a feed of fish.
Any tips on where might be productive would be appreciated.
I’m thinking Cape Schanck weather permitting but any recommendations would be good
Where to look for scallops in bay would be handy too (without giving away your secret spot).
Also, do you think it would be worthwhile getting some cray tags or is it the wrong
Time of year?
Cheers, Andy

Hey mate.

Cape schanck is a great spot, but like you said, weather permitted. Low swell and low winds will generally be in your favour for down there.
Scallops are anywhere from Tootgarook - Portsea in 4-12m of water on the sand. Once you find one, you'll start seeing more.

As far as cray tags go, definitely worth getting some just incase. Great time of year for crays.

Thanks heaps for that Mitch.
Good to know if the swell’s up I can sniff around for scallops in the bay
My cray tags have arrived so I’m set to have a crack.
Cheers

Thanks again for the info guys,
Had a dive at Cape Schanck for a nil result, neither my son or could bring ourselves to
shoot fish that were in the 25-28cm range (sweep, jackass, lj’s). The only things bigger
we saw were Duskies. Couldn’t find any crays.
That’s the bad news, good news was we got onto the scallops and feasted like kings on Christmas Day
ended up with 60 over two days and they were delicious!
