Aireys Inlet is still looking OK for Sunday’s competition.
Almost no wind till next week with dropping swell.
Vis may be the only concern.

Start location is the car park at the end of Eagle Rock Parade (see map).

Final call will be made later today after 6.00pm

Hi All,

The last aggregate competition is being called ON for this coming Sunday 08/04 at Aireys Inlet (with Kennett River as a backup) and is a shore dive comp.

Note there will be 1 more boat comp after this that is non-aggregate and is to round out the Hannan cup.

Meeting point is at the car park at the end of Eagle Rock Parade at 8am.
Please come early in case we have to move locations.

For all competition rules, please refer to the competitions section of the forum.
Ensure your forms are filled in and along with the $15 ($5 for juniors) are submitted by 8:30am.

If you haven't already done so, please sign up to the AUF (and select Southern Freedivers as the club).
Checks will be performed to ensure everyone has the correct safety gear.

A reminder to juniors that entering into the comp also gets you a entry into the TORELLI prize pack raffle that is drawn at the presentation night at the end of the season.
The prize pack has been donated by Legendary Skindiving Equipment.

Look forward to seeing you all there!

Hi All,

The 8th aggregate comp was run on Sunday at Aireys Inlet and we had a good turnout of SFD members, GFD members and independant divers.
with 16 adults and 2 junior signing on we all lined up on the beach for a photos, pre comp breifing and all took off in various directions.

There were a few rough breakers to get past, but past those the water was really flat. Vis wasn't ideal but was 3-5m in close. Going a bit further wide the vis improved with upto 10m in places.

Once it got close to lunchtime, the wind picked up dramatically (as forecast) and the surf picked up and was really choppy out wide. The current picked up a bit too so i started to make my way in a bit closer to find protection, but took longer than expected to get back in.
Getting a few sneaky fish on the way back in i was happy with my catch but unsure how many i had.

On the way in I saw Russell heading back out to try find some crays even though the wind mate the water choppy.
I had a chat to a family that had a dog going bonkers (as he didnt seem to know what i was) and continued making my way back and steering clear of beach goers.

Getting back the the carpark and signing off early, i noticed there were a decent amount of divers that had the same idea.
Odie was out of the water early mainly due to a stingray that fell in love with him and wouldnt leave him alone hehe.
We had a bit of a wait for the remaining divers to come back in but most were out of the water by 1:30 with Paul, Marcus and Kim being the only divers staying in till almost 3pm.

Dean lost all but 3 of his fish getting tossed around in the surf on the way in, including a tasty cuttlefish, proving that spring loaded catch bags aren't always ideal for shore based comps.

With the BBQ going we started the weigh in when all the divers returned and although catch bags weren't bursting at the seams, we were comforted knowing we could have decent scores due to Murray not being able to attend hehe.
Marcus took out the comp with 8 species followed closely by 4 divers with 7 fish.
A few divers didnt weigh any fish in and is good to have some non competitive divers in the mix.

Noteable catches were Bob's 2.4kg cray, Kim's 405gm red mullet, a few pinkies that were weighed in and my 3.06kg silver drummer.

Was a fun comp and was good to chatting with all the divers.
Photos were taken by Richard Just, Fran Manning, Brendan Waller and Nam Luong (and taken from their FB pages hehe).

A big thanks to Fran Manning for helping out with sign on's and sign offs and to Jayden Skinner for buying water and handing it out water to divers as they came back to their cars (before the bbq) and for getting his hands dirty and weighing the fish (as Geoff was worried about getting his clean clothes dirty :P).

Note there is still 1 boat comp that we will attempt to run to finalise the standings for the Hannan Cup. Stay tuned for more info regarding that comp.
