The Newhaven boat comp was held on Sunday 24/3. There was a great turnout with 20 divers signing on. There was a bit of chop for the morning shootout however the wind and swell was predicted to drop around midday (which it did). As usual, it was Murray’s boat leading the pack closely followed by 3 Jetskis. Most boats started close to shore around Cape Woolamai and some ventured out to pyramid rock, the long run proving bountiful.
As predicted the wind and sell dropped and the visibility increased to around 8 meters out the back and even better on the inside of Woolamai. In the last hour many boats made use of the incoming tide by drifting for flathead along the channel.
Murray ended up winning the day with 17 species, a solid score. Big thanks to everyone who helped organise the comp and to Murray for cooking the BBQ. Thanks to Watto for doing the weigh in.
