Going to be a cracking comp with a number of inter-state divers coming down just for the comp. Please beware that Shallow Inlet does have a bar crossing so boats have to be of a reasonable standard to be participating. There will be more info to come at the meeting but I recommend people start looking for a boat ride now if they intend to dive, because unfortunately I can see some people missing out. |

I can see the boundary marks for the National MP's, but the Islands also have a boundary of "Marine Park" Are these "Marine park" areas on the the islands OK for fishing? Maybe I have just missed something in the document... Found this topic. http://www.southernfreedivers.org.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1578&hilit=wilsons+prom Kinda answers it for me. |

You can fish in "Marine Parks" however you will notice in some locations from the Legend that the dotted areas are LINE FISHING ONLY. Others are open for both. "Marine National Parks" are out of bound for all types of fishing. |

Post subject: | Re: Kingfish Cup |
Seeings though the rules have only been downloaded 6 times I think I will post them so the message gets through. The rules of the Victorian Kingfish Cup are the same as normal Victorian Spearfishing competition rules with the following exceptions: -Divers must dive in pairs with one diver to remain on the surface at all times and within 30 meters of their float and flag. One float/flag minimum per pair but two flag/floats are ok. -Each dive float is to have an ‘alpha flag’ clearly displayed at all times, mirror (minimum 50mm x 50mm) and whistle. -Divers to remain within 30m of their partner at all times. Divers are to stay as a pair all day and no solo diving is allowed. -Assisted catches are allowed within the pair. -Flashers may be used. -A boat flag must be displayed at all times when there are divers in the water. Boat flags must be 900mm above the gunwale and be a minimum of 750 x 600 mm in dimension. -Only berley caught on the day to be used. All berley must be on the normal Victorian competition score sheet. -Every boat must have a marine radio and mobile phone on board. Radio channels will be advised on the day of competition. -Every boat must carry the minimum legal safety gear required to visit the area they plan to dive. Including compass, approved EPIRB and parachute flare IF the intended dive location is more than 2 nautical miles off the coast. -Only specie eligible is the Yellowtail Kingfish. Only 2 Yellowtail Kingfish per pair, per day are eligible for weigh-in. (No restrictions on who shoots the fish) No pair is to present more than 2 Kingfish to the weigh master per day. -All Yellowtail Kingfish to be a minimum of 65 cm. -Points will be allocated as follows: 100 points per fish and 10 points per kilogram. No maximum weight/points. Pair with most accumulated points over the two days are the Victorian Kingfish Cup champions. Note: If the competition is held on one day only then the highest pair will win the Victorian Kingfish Cup. -Any protests must be lodged to the Spearfishing Convenor within an hour of the sign off time. Any protests will be resolved by a committee of 3 Southern Freedivers Club members competing on the day. No two of these divers are to be from the same pair or involved in the protest. -Competition duration will be 6 hours, and may be reduced at the convenors discretion if they have weather concerns. -The competition will start and finish outside of the entrance to Shallow Inlet at an area determined by the Convenor. There will be one designated sign on/off vessel. -Whilst boats may be anchored on the dive location a designated boat driver is highly recommended. -The Southern Freedivers First Aid Kit will be stored on one of the competing boats and competitors will be advised which vessel this is at Sign On. Sign On: -All competitors are required to sign an indemnity form and be financial members of the Australian Underwater Federation. Juniors require parental consent and signature on consent form. -The dates for the 2011 Victorian Kingfish Cup are Saturday and Sunday the 12 and 13th February. If cancelled, the competition will be rescheduled for the following week end, Saturday and Sunday the 19 and 20th February. -A committee decision will be made as to whether the competition is to proceed on the Thursday prior to the competition at 12 noon. It will be posted on the Southern Freedivers website. Alternatively, a phone check can be done with club convenor Murray on 0407 047 405 or LSE shop on 93878490 after 12 noon on Thursday. -A Perpetual Cup and replicas will be awarded to the Highest Scoring Pairs. There is no specific categories rather all divers are competing in the Open division. -The sign on fee for the 2011 Victorian Kingfish Cup is $60 per diver and $30 per Junior. -Each boat that signs on must advise their boat rego and a mobile phone number. They will then be designated a Boat reference # for sign on/off. Weigh In/Presentation. -The weigh in is to be held at the Gazebo/BBQ area at Shallow Inlet immediately after the competition has ended. On the final day of the competition a presentation will be held. -Any prizes will be allocated to “mystery weights” for Kingfish and not top place getters only. A prize will be allocated to the heaviest Kingfish also. -The Southern Freedivers are to hand out ice to all competitors at the start of the competition. All competitors to provide suitable containers to keep their catch fresh and presentable for weigh in. Convenor has right to reject old or poorly kept fish. -All tails of the Kingfish to be clipped at weigh in. -A BBQ and soft drinks will be provided by the Southern club members at the weigh in. Start times: The sign on will commence at 0630 hours on day one at the Gazebo/BBQ area at Shallow Inlet and close at 0730 hours SHARP. 0730 Dive Briefing on land including showing of Marine Reserve. 0815 hours Depart Shallow Inlet launch area. 0900 hours Competition starts from outside of entrance of Shallow Inlet. 01500 hours competition concludes outside of entrance of Shallow Inlet. 1530 Retrieve boats and weigh in. Day two briefing to start at and conclude at 0730 hours. 0730 Dive Briefing on land including showing of Marine Reserves. 0815 hours Depart Shallow Inlet launch area. 0900 hours Competition starts from outside of entrance of Shallow Inlet. 01500 hours competition concludes outside of entrance of Shallow Inlet. 1530 Retrieve boats and weigh in. Boating/Safety: -The area we plan to dive does involve a beach launch and a bar crossing. Ideally, a 4 WD vehicle is required to launch and retrieve safely and the vehicles will be required to get wet doing this. Please be prepared. You will be required to do a bar crossing and this requires sound boating skills and experience and sea worthy vessels. Everyone to wear life jackets for bar crossing regardless of boat size, whether they are wearing wetsuits, etc. PLEASE BE PREPARED and VERY CAREFUL. |

Attachment: forecast.JPG [ 27.58 KiB | Viewed 4596 times ] Going to be a bit of wind slop on Saturday morning but it should back off. The bar should be OK with short duration swell (hopefully indicating it is just wind chop). All details as per the other thread eg. sign-on time. I will post the indemnity this afternoon for the juniors to get parental consent. EVERYONE MUST be AUF MEMBERS. |
