Hey everyone, I went to one of the club meetings a while ago. Was wondering if the cape schank comp is on still for the 15th and if I would be able to come along for a social dive that day? Cheers Christian

Alright, alright I read the sticky note about confirmation of comps the day before and that brett is in charge and to wait until then and not ask silly questions in the mean time but what do i need to bring to be 'legal' etc? I have read i need a whistle and a mirror and a float with flag? Is this right? What is the mirror for? Anything else i need to bring or know before going? Cheers Christian

Hi Christian

You will need a float & flag, whistle, mirror and knife. (The mirror is for safety should you be swept out to sea and a search aircrft needs to spot you. Look through the hole in your mirror and spot the plane. The sun's reflection off your mirror will then be seen from the aircraft). To enter a comp you will need AUF membership at the very minimum. It is preferable to have SFD membership as well. We need you to be a member for insurance purposes. No problem in coming for a social dive.

Re the Schank, don't quote me but it is not 100% that we are diving there since we have had a comp there this season. Brett or P.Diddy will call it.

Cheers

Gig

Thanks Gigantor, just a social dive at this time I reckon, don't want to embaress myself and really just want to see some other more experienced people diving so as to learn a few tips. This mirror seems like a special bit of kit, are they at any dive store? Cheers Christian

Ray's Outdoor should have them. I would say that most camping shops should. Some $2 shops may. They are either a stainless steel sheet or perspex. At minumum you could use an old cd although the shiny side wears off within a few dives.
