Hi Doc,

I really wanted to come up and do this comp this year but our club calender is very busy with Vic Titles 9,10,11th the a spare on the 17th followed by our inargural Newhaven boat comp on either the 23/24th. My other issue is I have a leak in my underfloor tank and dont have the range for any offshore fun...

There is alway next year for me!!

I hope there is a good sign on and some awesome fish come in!

Good luck with the titles and the rest of the comps down there. Whack a maggie for me! I am sure there will be another next year. Will post up some photos and results.

Doc

We still had about 2+ hours of the comp to go
I was swimming around trying to find a lump that comes up which I had seen mackeral on. 400m away was Trevor. I had been swimming around for 15 minutes and then cracked it and jumped into the boat to sound. Tevor yells out and looks like he is struggling with a fish. We all agreed in the boat--"looks like he's got a fish". Then his float left him and headed north at a steady pace. We got up next to Trev and the look on his face was priceless. "shot a marlin, its massive, at least 80-kgs" he says. He go into the boat and off we went following the float for the next 10-20 minutes. Put Trev in front of it but it just kept going to fast to swim to. It just kept going steadily. At this stage it has a 8-10 litre float attached only. Trev clipped my 12 litre float on as well. This made us feel a bit better.

It just kept swimming. Trev started to clip line off little bit at a time. At this stage we still had time to land it and get back to the weigh in. I jumped in with a reel gun to see if it had any cobia on it.....It sped up then. At about the hour mark it went deep and took both floats. It dissapeared for 10-20 minutes with all attached. I looked at my watch and we had just enough time to make the weigh. I had a cobia, amberjack and kingfish.

A whitecap in the distance looked like a float so we sped to it--nothing. Then on return we just idle around and then she popped up 400 metres away and just bobbed. We knew that the comp was out now and trev just wanted the fish aboard. Didn't think it would have been a record and he wanted help. I swam down to it at around 18 metres and put another shot into the flank. It was huge!. Immediately the first shot then fell out! Put another shot into it and then hauled it up. Rope through the gills and over the transom. Got back 40 mins late to a stern police officer and a very worried wife (should have called in late). Crowd just swarmed the boat. Smiles everywhere. Fish donated to the auction.

It was weighed chopped into chunks on small 50kg scales--total was 165kg--15kg over the USFA record.
obviously it cannot be claimed but was great to be a part of anyway.

Did you weigh your fish in anyway? How would you have gone if you hadn't been such an awesome bloke?
