Just back from the doctor and unfortunately my ear infection hasn't cleared enough to dive at the weekend.

I'm available to do boaty for somebody, otherwise I'll be there to set up the bbq.

Edit: Now doing boaty

Great day guys, good turnout.

Big thanks to the organisers and to the large amount of people that shared the workload around to make it an enjoyable day.
Best on Ground performance by Fitzy :P who was not able to dive but didnt stop helping out all day including transporting trailer and last of all congrats to Brett on his spearing efforts.

Look forward to the next comp 8)

Geoff

A great day for a dive with a great result. Just shows what you can do from the shore.
Thanks all.

Smashed it Brett! You don't see Rob Torelli with 80.35% very often.
Bob Manning, two 3rd placings in the first two comps after a 20 year hiatus!
15 yr old Mac Riddle. Beating A+ grade diver Chris Monaghan - sorry to gloat Chris but he was on my boat :P
Best effort of the day has to go the Trent and Kyle. I found them way of shore on Rosebud Reef after they had to shore dive due to boat problems.
Thats a long swim even with out the contast tidal current they had to swim against all day

Unbelievable effort from the Robust Red head that thrives on a diet of Pies, KFC and of course Beer! Enough to fuel the Yak for a good days spearing. Not to mention the first time I have seen him not so enthused at the start of a comp, no doubt due to a slight hang over. Well done!

Hmmm never seen or heard of that Silver Spot Cod, good catch Brett. Has any one got a link that has more info about this species?
I can't seem to find anything about it

Close relative of what used to go by the name kelpie but now seams to be southern sea carp. Not a cod at all. You would have to be brave to even try eat one.

I apologise. Useless info below you have been warned!

Not far off Greg. "Silver spot" are from the Kelpfish family (Chironemidae) not the marble fish family (Aplodactylidae) which the southern sea carp belongs. Can't comment on taste but if they smell anything like a southern sea carp I'm staying well clear.

Surfcoastspearo- google search Chironemus maculosus or what it previously was known as Threpterius maculosus.
