Southern Freedivers are happy to announce the official start to the 2015/2016Southern Freedivers Victorian Challenge.
This years comp will run from our August 2015 meeting(Aug 4th) through until the usual finish at the June 2016 club meeting (June 7th).
This 10 species competition has been successfully run for many years and continues to run as one of Southern Freedivers premier comps.Southern Freedivers club menbership together with AUF is required to enter .

The Vic Challenge ONLY targets 10 key Vic species - see above post. This will be the 14th season the VC has run.

Heaviest fish of each species gets 10 points, second heaviest 9 points, third heaviest 8 points and so on. Maximum score = 100. For those that are wishing to compete in the VC for the first time, see leaderboards from previous seasons. You'll get the idea.

This is a special comp. It is tough to win. However, many competing aren't just out to win it. Some have the goal to weigh in all 10 species, others put a wager on with a mate and see who can finish highest and others have the goal to submit a lone 10 pointer.

Fish must be taken in Vic waters. Fish must be submitted within 30 days of capture. Late submissions WILL NOT be accepted. Maximum 2 of each species to be submitted. Fish must be weighed on certified club scales. This season will see a set of certified scales at every SFD club meeting and weigh points with Brett Illingworth (Peninsula) ph 0439881958, Paul Blackborrow (Geelong) ph 0416167604, Geoff Gannon (Melb) Ph 0433444400.

Preferred method to submit fish is via a PM on the forum to VictorianChallenge.

A leaderboard will be put up under this post before each monthly meeting.

Just move all dates forward by 1 month and you should be right. If you cannot follow that then ring Muzz and he will set you straight. If no one turns up on those dates then all events will revert to the dates on the calendar. Hope that helps .

Yeah right, that makes a lot of sense... Muzz is going to appreciate all the phone calls... Why is this happening, I would have thought that the Sfd committee would have learned from what happened last time changes were made to this premier event...??????

I think a number of incidences have contributed to this sudden change
-weve allowed Prospects to much power eg cooking sausages
-some weirdo puts up toy cars & figurines in dive reports
-our best diver enjoys watching dr phil
And saddest of all carlys friend Laura is still waiting to be speared

No wonder, Hilly did the bolt.

List one negative about having the comp run longer?

List one good thing about starting a comp 1 month before it's NOMINATED date on our calendar?? No one gives a shit about when it starts. It's the fact people not at the meeting or on the Net could be lead to believe it's starts in September now...... Could have left it till next season... Makes the SFDs look like peanuts if you ask me!

People did not know the comp had started.

Its no big deal. Just seems crazy to have a start date on a club calender then change it overnight at a meeting for reasons I'm not sure of. If it was starting early at least give the members a weeks notice. Surely that would make more sense.

Come May will the comp be randomly declared closed?? No. You wouldn't change the end date so why mess with the start date?

That's why Andrew put a post up..

It went to a committee vote before the meeting and all that were there were in favour (AV, NV, NW, BI). It was announced at the meeting with no objections.

There is no negative side to it and will encourage people to jump in the water during these colder months when there is no other comp.

As for people not on the net or coming to a club meeting not knowing, look at the scoreboard from last year.. 10 out of the 15 competitors were at the meeting the rest are on the net.

You guys are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

OK, So the problem is the process. In recent times the committee has been trying to get all the boring stuff done behind the scenes so that at our meetings are shorter and people have more time to socialise . The committee did have e mails circulating re the calendar and we ended up with what we thought was final. At the committee meeting just prior to last club meeting I suggested that it could start early. The committee present voted and it passed. ( Yes we voted). Was there any reason why it should not start early ?Only the date on the calendar. It might give some a reason to get in the water earlier than normal. If no one does then nothing lost.
So its started. The date on the calendar is not correct, It has been well publicised on the forum and face book.
Keep in mind that events and dates on the calendar are changed all the time to suit the occasion as the year passes and we manage to cope with that without problems.

If the process we followed was not correct then sorry .
Maybe next year we should spend time at meetings sorting the calendar and then set it in concrete. :P

Its winter, the water is cold as it warms up and everyone starts to get in the water more this will all seem insignificant. Thanks for the input we will try and do better.
