Post subject: | Job for comp divers |
After discussion at the Victorian Museum we realised that a few species were missing in any number from the collection. And as comp divers are more likely to notice different species, I put forward the name of the SFD as being the blokes for the job! If you guys come across them, specimens of: Meuschenia australis - Brown LJ, Brown-striped LJ, Southern LJ, Australian LJ. Meuschenia galii - Gal's LJ, Blue-lined LJ. would be most welcome at the Museum Victoria (in the city, near Parliament station). Ideally, each comp you guys get them, pick two or three of the best specimens, freeze them and email Dianne Bray to organise delivery. PM me for details. You, the club and the spearfishing community gets credit for the specimen, which is recorded in its capture details. Not to mention you can add to the knowledge of distribution and species sizes! As an example, there are over 200 specimens lodged at the Australian Museum in Sydney (mainly by me as the scientific officer for the USFA), which list the AUF and the NSW Spearfishing body as the donor. So any paper published using these specimens lists the AUF and NSW SC in its acknowledgments. |

I kinda take insult to that! We don't just shoot LJ's down here.... I swear!! I had a look around for some identification on the species, for myself and for others. This is what i found, hopefully they are accurate pictures! Meuschenia australis - Brown-striped LJ, Southern LJ: Meuschenia galii - Blue-lined LJ: |
