Hi All, DivePro in conjunction with MrDive presents the 8th Victorian Kingfish Cup. The Cup is a 2 day event and is currently planned for the weekend of 10th-11th February (weather permitting) and a backup option of the following weekend (17th-18th February). In the past few years some good Kingfish have been weighed in! For full details, please refer to the attached info pack and registration forms. They are available as MS Word documents and PDF's As usual, we will make the final call to run the comp on Thursday evening after the updated forecast is released. With Kingfish also being 1 of the 10 species on our Vic Challenge comp, its a good chance to score a fish for that comp too. With all the recent reports of kings being caught both on line and spear across Victoria, means we should be in for a cracker of a comp! Hi All, Just a reminder that the cut-off for submitting the sign-on forms is 12pm today. If you haven't signed up to the AUF, please do so and select "Southern Freedivers" as your club. A 19.3kg kingfish was taken yesterday so there are some decent sized fish around! Some good divers are entering the comp so hopefully we will see some good fish at the weigh-in. Hi All, The 8th Victorian Kingfish cup was held over the weekend and was open to diving across the Victorian Coastline. We had 11 pairs sign on with 4 divers scheduled to dive out west, 2 divers on the Bellarine Peninsula and the rest diving the eastern part of Victoria. The conditions were forecast to be good on Saturday morning but the wind was scheduled to pick up in the afternoon and not improve on Sunday. With reports of fish taken on the first day the pressure was off some teams, however the weather on Sunday was as forecast and no one was able to dive on the second day. Some divers saw big schools of fish, but they were too fast and wouldn't come in close enough for a shot. 4 kingfish were taken, however 3 were taken by the 1 team and their biggest 2 were presented for weigh-in. The winning pair was Chris Monaghan and Jozef Bendarek with two fish weighing 14.0kg and 13.8kg. Nathan Watson and Nghia Vu came in 2nd with a massive 20.2kg kingfish that was shot by Nathan and he gets the title for the heaviest kingfish at 20.2kg. Nathan Watson also gets the title for the heaviest crayfish that weighed in at 2.4kg. There were a few fish presented for the most meritorious fish (other than Kingfish), including a 1.5kg Trumpeter (Pierre C), 2.65kg Salmon (Peter T), 3.3kg Salmon (Leigh E), 3.9kg Dusky Morwong (Dean V) and a 0.8kg Sea Sweep (Dean V). The winner for the most meritorious fish (other than Kingfish) is Leigh Elliot with his 3.3kg Salmon. As Leigh could not attend the weigh in, Bob is pictured with Leigh's fish and prize. Thank you to DivePro and MrDive for donating the prizes for this prestigious comp. Thanks to all that entered, Watto for being the weigh master and Pete Thompson for doing the BBQ. Look forward to competing with everyone next year!
