Hi All,

With the wind preventing us from running the Newhaven boat comp, we were able to get into Pyramid rock for a shore based comp on Saturday. With strong northerlies the cliffs of Phillip Island provided great protection from the winds. A few were nervous in the lead up as the wind was predicted to turn to a strong westerly, but on arrival the water looked really good.

With 18 senior divers and 3 juniors, the turnout of divers was greater than expected and a nice surprise.

After the safety check and briefing, we were underway and divers scattered to their preferred dive locations. A few divers went out to the west side, knowing it would be undiveable later in the day and some headed to the bommies, with the rest staying on the protected side.

The few that went out wide enjoyed minimal current and good visibility with some areas having 12-15m vis.
Some divers elected to gather the reef species in the morning and focus on flashing for kingys for the rest of the day, however none were taken on the day.

As forecast, the wind turned westerly just before midday and the few divers on the right side made their way over to the calm protected waters.
Some divers left the water early, while others stayed in till close to the 3pm cutoff.

The divers lined up the tubs with their catch and the weigh in commenced.
With all the usual species weighed in, there were a few standout fish including a 3.2kg salmon that Murray weighed in with its lunch still in its mouth, a nice pinky that Murray also got, a nice squid and a few trevally.

With a few fish being just under, Murray still took out the day with a cracking 15 species.
Well done to everyone that turned up and scored well.

A big thanks to Geoff and Carly for coming down to the weigh in to bring a set of scales as I forgot them!
Also thanks to all that helped out on the day, including Andrew for doing the sign on's/off's, Brendon for cooking BBQ, Margaret for making the burgers, Murray for weighing the fish and Watto for scoring.
