Do you want to improve your spearfishing? Do you and a friend want to try out spearfishing competitions? Southern Freedivers will be hosting the Victorian pairs competition next weekend. This competition is aimed at promoting safe spearfishing, hence we encourage experienced divers to pair up with lesser experienced divers. The comp is scheduled for Sunday with Saturday as a backup. The final call will be made on Thursday night. Hope to see you all there. |

Due to unfavourable conditions this weekend we have to postpone the pairs comp again! We understand that it’s hard to plan around these changes, unfortunately we’re dictated by the weather. We’ll be running this comp sometime this season so watch this space. Don’t forget that the Vic Challenge started in August and there’s been no fish weighed in yet. So get out there and shoot some squid! See you all underwater |

Hi All, The first comp of the season was run yesterday as the non aggregate pairs comp and it was run from fossil beach in Mornington. There was a good turnout of 16 divers (8 pairs) with a few new faces which is always good to see. The forecast was for low winds and was already glassy while divers were signing on and getting ready. We headed to the rock wall and a few divers went back up the hill and went for a long walk to their secret spots. In close the vis was really good, but as divers swam out the vis got worse as it got deeper. Being a short 4 hour comp, everyone needed to make the most of it and everyone scattered in their pairs. The wind picked up a bit for about 30 mins, but then dropped back down to almost nothing. Most divers got out of the water around 12:30 and 2 pairs did the mad dash to sign off for the 1pm cut off and just made it. The bbq was fired up and the weigh in commenced. The most common species weighed in were Deep Bodied leather jackets, Six spine leather jackets and Bluethroat wrasse. Although the fish life wasn't plentiful there were a few standout fish weighed in, including a 1.9kg Black drummer from the Fitzy's, Andrew's 635gm Trevally, Andrews 1.69kg Bluethroat and Kim's 875gm Silver Drummer. The winners were Kim Adair and Svyatoslav Shanygin with 4 species. Final tally is as follows. Kim & Svyatoslav (4 fish) 452.05 pts Ziya & Abel (4 fish) 383.7 pts (2 penalties) Chris & Scott (3 fish) 352.95 pts (1 penalty) Kaylah & Odie (3 fish) 344.7 pts Andrew & Stoj (2 fish) 248.25 pts Alan & Darragh (2 fish) 226.2 pts Bob & Jozef (2 fish) 212.85 pts Mitch & Morgan (1 fish) 132.75 pts It was a fun comp and a nice way to dust off the cobwebs for the comp season. Thanks to all that attended and everyone that helped out with the weigh in and bbq. Look forward to seeing you all at the next comp which is planned for next weekend! As usual the final call will be made on Thursday evening.
