Hi All, Yesterday the first aggregate comp was run from Sorrento back beach. We had a good turn out with 19 divers signing on, including 4 juniors. Would have been 20, but unfortunately Scott Kelly's car came worse off after a close encounter with a roo on the way to the comp. We were greeted with ideal conditions with low wind and almost no swell. After a short briefing on the beach a few moonwalked into the water straight away, some walked to 1 bay over and one person went back up the hill for a long hike. The vis was pretty good with some spots having up to 12m vis. The wind picked up slightly, however it wasn't enough to cause more than a ripple on the surface of the water. With decent reef structure around, majority of divers didn't venture too far, although there were at least 2 divers that made it all the way to Diamond Bay. A few divers came back in after a 2 hours, but the majority of divers coming back in around the 2:30 mark and only 2 divers needed to make the quick dash to sign off before the 3pm cutoff. Although he didn't dive, Odie was nice enough to come down and cook the bbq. The weigh in was under way and there were a few interesting fish weighed in including 3 Cowanyoungs, 2 Trumpeters, 3 Silver Drummers and a Red Cod. Kim took out the comp with 10 species and Brett coming in second after shooting all his fish with a pole spear. Even though the water was still a little bit cold, the conditions were great and interesting terrain for those that had never dived before. Final scores for the day are as follows. Kim Adair (10 species) 1121.4 pts - 100% Brett Illingworth (9 species) 984.46 pts - 87.79% Bob Manning (8 species) 891.85 pts - 79.53% Paul Dorfstatter (8 species) 860.8 pts - 76.76% Mitch Kornberg (7 species) 763 pts - 68.04% Chris Rogers (7 species) 752.5 pts - 67.1% Tim Fitzpatrick (6 species) 668.6 pts - 59.62% Spencer Gubbins (6 species) 647.3 pts - 57.72% (1 Penalty) Jarvis Espie (6 species) 639.2 pts - 57% Stoj Pavlovski (5 species) 549.9 pts - 49.04% Ziya Mustafa (5 species) 533.7 pts - 47.59% Hao Pan (5 species) 531.7 pts - 47.41% Cameron Fitzpatrick (4 species) 430.05 pts - 38.35% Morgan Le Guludec (4 species) 426.2 pts - 38.01% (1 Penalty) Svyatoslav Shanygin (4 species) 421.6 pts - 37.6% Angus Burns (2 species) 223.65 pts - 19.94% Jozef Bednarek (2 species) 210.45 - 18.77% Notable fish weighed in were: Red Cod (380gm) Bob Manning Cowanyoung (480gm) Tim Fitzpatrick Sea Sweep (915gm) Tim Fitzpatrick Six Spined LJ (1000gm) Spencer Gubbins Zebra Fish (1255gm) Stoj Pavlovski Zebra Fish (1250gm) Chris Rogers Trumpeter (1425gm) Bob Manning Silver Drummer (800gm) Paul Dorfstatter Thanks to everyone that helped with organising the comp, including Fran Manning for doing the sign on's/offs and taking photos for us.
