Just wondering if anybody can clear this up for me. It appears in the Parks Victoria guide that you are allowed to spearfish and take abs/crays within the Marine Park (not Marine National Park), which includes within 300m of the glennies (not Cleft Island). Can anybody confirm this? Last time I dived this area I saw some absolute ripper abs, and plenty of ledges and caves that would likely hold crays, I didn't take any as I wasn't sure on the restrictions. Next time I am down there, I would defenitely prefer a feed of cray and ab to tinned spaghetti on toast...

Also, I presume that the 60 open days would not apply for these waters?

The 60 open days apply to all victorian waters! There is a map on the forum that shows the relevant info for the proms marine parks etc. With in i think don't quote me, 200m of the glennies more so the 2 northern islands you can spear. There is a line running from the tip of great glennie to the prom i think its to tongue point but may be further south that defines the marine national park boundaries.

The sixty open days are for central Vic. Outside of that you can take them any day.

Really? Holy crap, then why is everyone bitching and moaning about the amount of days you can take abs? I mean sure it's a good 2.5hour drive and fat boat ride to the prom but you could surely shore dive. Am I to understand from all this that you can take your 5 abs any days you want out there or outside the central region?

From memory the Marine National Park starts near the southern end of norman bay so if you're north of that fishing of any method is fine. There're some great spots on the headland between picnic and squeaky!

i wont say any thing nigz pretty sure the park is 300m inside the glennies,and on the main land tidal river is the start of the marine park. As good as it looks for crays you will strugle to find any,only ever seen 2 at the glennies and that was in the same ledge. tongue point in the day use to be good for crays but not any more

what about the 4.5kg jobs pulled out from tongue point this year, still holds some good bugs....islands suck hary donkey balls though.

From what I can gather within 300m of Norman Island is Marine Park, however, this lies outside the MNP zone. A line between the north tip of great glennie island and the south end of Norman Bay (beach) marks the Northern border of the MNP. HOWEVER, it also appears that a similar Marine Park zone exists around the Glennie Islands, which would therefore allow spearfishing, and taking abs and crays on the East (MNP) side of the Glennies providing you are within 300m of one of the islands AND on the West side of the islands.

Can anybody confirm/reject? Parks Victoria is delightfully unhelpful...

I eventually ended up emailing Parks Victoria last week and got the following reply;

"You are able to take abalone and crayfish in accordance with fisheries regulations
within 300m of McHugh, Dannevig, Citadel and Great Glennie Islands. Good luck hope
you have agood trip."

I figure that would also include line and spearfishing.

I figured this may be of interest to some, it would mean that if Norman Island isn't firing for kings, there are a couple of other places to try. Personally I'm after a couple of those monster greenlips I saw there last year...
