Ok some of us SFD that rnt doin the coral sea trip in september are trying to organise a New Zealand Spearing trip for February or March, this is when the big kings and good weather are round. It's 5 and a bit days of spearing, arriving Saturday and spearing from Sunday to Friday. The trip is AUS $1500, this will include, boat, accomadation, skipper and guide which may be Ray Powell him self, lunch is supplied but not sure how we do dinners. Its a $500 dollar deposit to seal your place on the boat. It's 6 people max on the boat, or we can pay abit extra each and take 4 or 5 people. Im trying to get a rough idea if we could get around 6 people for our own trip, but if we cant he has got another trip organised but they are short a couple od divers. ah yeah.. im not really interested coz i go to nz every year if not more but just curious to where abouts your going? would it be somewhere like white island?

i do a shit load of line fishing up in the bay of islands coz its where my grandad lives and i know its a very good spot for fish so if your not sure where to go yet maybe you could give that a go.

ok we got 4 confirmed atm, Got an email from Ray last night about what fish we will be chasing
yes mate big yellowtail kings. snapper , Pink Mao Mao , Salmon, blue moki, Blue fish , Red Crays and mabey packy's . Giant boarfish , greenlip mussels , Paua. We have seen big tuna and marlin there at the time of year also.

It's also the exact same trip the guys did last year to New zealnd

ok the trips full now, but if you are interested drop me an email and you can go on the waiting list if someone drops out. i got more information of Ray We are on the east side operating in the bay of plenty. White island , astrolab reef , whale island , mayor island etc etc . the place where we are staying are fully self contained with lots of fr3ezer space for all the fish. We are able to bring all fish back over to Australia from NZ as long as it's frozen.

You don't need vac seal the fish, large zip bags are OK.
The machine will kill your luggage allowance.
All you need is roll of packing tape, quite few bags and Joe will organize styrofoam boxes for us.
Fillet, bag and freeze the fish every day, last day pack the boxes and freeze them overnight.
That should see the fish frozen all the way to Melb.
You looking at one box (~25kg) per person anyway.
Potentially you running risk of paying NZ$ 8 per kilo, so work it out!
The kings and crays are only worth taking.
Gave the rest to the hood, there's always plenty of interest.
Give out few fish one always comes back smoked, cooked or something.
No shortage of food really.
Was swimming on average 6 hrs every day including last day rock-hop (6th day, boat's paid for 5 days unless you pay extra for the 6th day) and came back 2 kilos heavier.
We've stayed overnight in Auckland and had the fish in hotel freezer, can do the same this time.

Yeh but some of us have never shot or eaten kingfish? take a little from column A and a little from column B

dont listen to him johno,kingfish are great eating.not as good as coral trout though

yeh i heard coral trout are sensational, hopefully come back with a few of those in a few weeks
