this year the state titles will be held at port fairy on the 23rd and 24th of january, this is the australia day long weekend but unfurtunatly 25th is not a public holiday so the comp will definatly held on the 23 and 24. Port fairy has both sheltered and open area's so even if conditions are average there is ever chance the comps will be held. I will post the area"s that will be dived tonight or tomorrow. Hope to see you there

to participate in the state titles you must be an AUF member. cost of comp entry usually $10/day. a few years ago, most of us stayed at the big4 caravan park. good facilities for the family( indoor heated pool, great for after a hard day) etc and reasonably priced. this is where i'm staying again.

Just wondering if anybody can give a bit of a prediction on the likely conditions for the upcoming long weekend given the current forecast.

Cheers, Dave

Some pretty decent swell there, I reckon Saturday will b shithouse, improving Sunday with monday, Tuesday being the best days. Would deffinitly want to dive more protected areas'

Having said that, we were spose to be having big swell here too but it hasnt really been that big, infact it was flat as this arvo, so you just never no untill it comes ay'

this is how it is guys, saturday looks like a right off! iv spoken to a few senior divers tonight and we have come up with a game plan. we would like to hold the comp on sunday and monday, we understand some people have to work monday so here is your chance to argue why we shouldnt dive monday. ill make a final decision tomorrow night. its not a perfect scenario i know but its the way it has to be. 8 oclock is the deadline so give it your best arguement!

Heres what i reckon,

Postpone till the following weekend, there will be more divers and most probably better conditions. A better time will be had by those that attend. The chance of good catches will be increased.

Is there a reason that it HAS to be this weekend esp if the conditions look crap?

I say postpone it but that's only coz I can't make it! Plenty of people have already planned their weekend down there tho, maybe a social this weekend and the titles somewhere a little closer next weekend so people don't have to do two big trips in a row?

Either way I'm not that fussed as I don't reckon I'm gonna miss much more than a crap dive this weekend, would've been nice to have been able to have a crack for the nationals tho!

I reckon do what you have planned muzza and push the comp back a day. If it is not divable then you can move it to the following weekend..

I know a few guys (not me) have already paid for accomodation and to cancel the whole weekend because saturday is shit, might annoy them.
