Hey guys,
I have used the search icon on the website, but i couldnt find a awnser for what i was looking for. Not to long ago i made a float line out of 17m of clear pvc tubing, with a diametre of about 1.0 cm, and about 18 metres of yellow floating rope, i bought from bunnings. I am deciding to give it a go agian with a different setup, but i dont know what length i should have this time(of the pvc tubing). During my first float line all up was about 17 m. From what I heard the tubing should be thinner and shorter? I dive in the bay around Portalington and St Leonards alot. I am thinking of going to .75cm diametre of tubing, but dont know the required length i should make it. In the inside of the the tubing i am going to put jenkai(marlin line) in the middle. How do you think this will perform, and what length do you reckon it should be all up. Thanks for you time and help guys.

Dave, i think it's upto personal preference how long your floatline should be, even have 2 floatline's bay and ocean, if you could go 6mm pvc with vc down the centre it would be strong enough, i currently have a 12m long 8mm pvc with vc, it's ok for the bay but i would prefer something thinner, less drag and atleast 15m long, as you don't want to be wrestling your float on a dive.

yerh i want to make my pvc tubing alot thinner, i was at bunnings the other day and saw this tubing that was really really thin so i mite go that just enough to fit the jenkai in it. cheers buddy.

I like the idea of whipping one of these up myself. What size line do you reckon should go down the middle? Will say 400 lb mono do it? I see a lot of commercial rigs use dyneema, but that's overkill on newbie size fish?

do you guys reckon just crimp and push into the tube and then strink wrap?

Good picture/description of someone else's homebrew rig, they use those smooth fishing swivels to plug the ends of the rope. I'll probably squirt a dollop of rtv down there too just to be sure. Then heatshrink the ends on like they have. He says 400 lb line too; but anything that can hold a marlin should probably be ok

Try Squeezing silicone (20cm) down both ends of your line, then wrap it.
Traps air better in your line.
