Hey Guys

New to spearfishing and don't know where to start? I have a long sleeve camo ocean wetsuit and land and sea snorkel mask and flippers. Is this good? and what would be good affordable gear? I would only be spearfishing in close around the sand and rocks.
Any good spots people could PM me around mt eliza.

Cheers Pike

maybe there should be a a section in this form which explains all the things to get started then the grumpy bums on this forum might take a chill pill!!!

dw buddy many new people get the same treatment as you. funny as clubs are there to promote sports and get members???

anyway a good place to start is learning how to equalise. you can learn that by going to como's post as other members have explained it

other than that to start out the gear you have is fine mate. as for spots to dive you will find it extreamly hard to get people to tell you spots  and i dont live out in your area but i have been there and there are heaps of good spots around there just need to adventure around and try your luck.

being new though just stick to the bay. also try and find a dive buddy just for safety mate

besides that do some reading and search out some older post to answer your questions and you should be well on your way.

Yeah I will work on something in the next few weeks.

Don't think that nas represents the whole SFD. He is a good bloke but not on the committee  More just a resident shit stirrer.

But even though he has no tact alot of what he is saying is right. Searching this forum will answer alot of the basic questions and headlands are a great place to start. I'm sure there are some great reefs in 20m of water off Mt. Eliza but they won't be of any use to Pike.

Most of all come down to a meeting. You don't need to be a member just come down and chew someones ear off about diving. It is much easier than us typing 10 pages about how to spearfish..
