i got a question about fibreglassingmy wave breaker for those who have fibreglassed before. , do i do individual layers of fibreglass then sand it back after each layer or do i lay my 4-5 layers then give it a final sand with a belt sander before i gelcoat it.

Is the breaker fixed permanently to the boat or have you bolted it to the existing screen fixings? What I am asking is; can you work on the breaker without it connected to the boat, ie on work horses? If you plan to do individual layers and not a solid pour, so to speak, then make sure you are using 'unwaxed resin' and wipe the surface of the previous layer thoroughly with clean rags and prepsol, thinners or acetone changing the rags often. Sanding with 400 ish paper between layers just to scour the surface would be good too.

Starting to look good... We'll have to run a 'classic 'Haines' boat comp' when shes finished!!

Hey mate, just seeing if you have finished the project yet? I have had to do a whole lot of bits and pieces to mine and now the warm weather has set in it is making it difficult with the glassing. If you have finished it, any pics?? I hope it went well!
