One of the most important articles you will ever read as a spearfisher.. Honestly!

http://www.spearblog.com/2011/11/19/spe ... hort-list/

(After reading this I don't know why Muzza still dives with me).

i hope you're all having a laugh because this to me seems like common sense - whether you're fishing, hunting...etc its just an essay on being decent

Glad to see someone has already started my thead! Dove Queenscliff yesterday, got in a bit before 9am. Twenty or so minutes later I see two spearo's getting set up on the beach in from my position. The vis was only just and I had not long found a large patch of squid, one on the float already. As I continued my hunting, I look up to see a diver right in front of me with my gun nearly pointing at him. We exchange a few words, ie vis is shit, I say yeh but a lot of squid about, thinking he will move on.
Over the next half hr or so these two spearo's get in my way 5 or 6 times. By which point I have 5 squid, they have one! I try moving a touch and I seem to be followed. I sit on the bottom with about 8 squid of varried size around me waiting for a larger one to come into range. In the end I fire a glancing shot. One of the other spearo's zooms in and nailed the squid which is still trying to access what had just happened. He pops up and say's "I waited".
None the less I'm pissed now! As he battles to contain the catch his float line and float are right in front of me. His legs are tangled in his mono and there is ink going everywhere. I see his shark clip less than arms length in front of me and believe me i was CLOSE TO UNCLIPPING IT AND WATCHING HIS FLOAT DRIFT TO TASSI. 30k Northery blowing.
For f#%k sake the ocean is a big place and if someone is hunting (by line or spear) give them some bloody room. I didn't invite you pricks to spear on top of me so find your own patch of squid!
And a tip! Don't approach a diver spearing head on, he probably isn't looking for you!
Let me know where you are having ya christmas picnic and I'll bring my rug and set up right on top of you eh! Maybe your missus can rub my back!

Anyway I left with 8 squid to 1.6kg, still a good dive if somewhat frustrating, pity work was calling.

I have had pretty much the same thing happen to me when spearing squid Blacky and yes - this is SHIT BEHAVIOUR. I hope the offenders read this and realise they have fucked up. Feel free to post an apology!

In my case, if they had swam up and said "gday mate, mind if we join in." I probably would have said to give me another 30 mins then no drama. I'm sure Blacky would have done the same. To just swim out from the shore and dive right on top of another spearo is just shithouse.

I have also had 2 spearos swim up my burley trail elsewhere in PPB and spook good fish. I had been there for ages. Saw them getting in off the shore and thought - surely they won't just come right past me. I was wrong!

Both my cases were young blokes decked out with all the gear.

Shit that they were right on top of you but there's no "Find your own patch of Squid" at Queenscliff. Often there's only 1 patch! If you're on the squid odds are you won't be alone for long.

Communication is the key I reckon, if there's ever a diver already in a spot I wanna dive first thing is to acknowledge/meet them and then most importantly make sure your not in their way.

Yeh I read the blog, and?

If a surfer drops in on another surfer then one can expect cranberry sauce to flow from his face soon after. Gate crashing someone you don't know while fishing is no different.

The planet now has 7 billion people and this means less of everything for us all. Except Co2, heaps of that around. In Australia I expect my countrymen to have manners and be curtious to each other. It feels better when you are considerate. That's all I ask. If not then piss off to india, Indo or Penang and see how much fun it is living in each others pocket. My 2c.

PS Yeh I'm still Pissed! But venting on this forum is really helping.

Here's another Tip. If you get seasick and know you do..and come out on some ones boat (especially Wolf's) don't expect a courtesy ride back in. Cup of CONCRETE required, else your never coming back out again. :)
