Hey all, Just getting into a bit spearfishing and wondering if there are any functioning clubs around the Warrnambool or Port Fary areas. Keen to get out alot more and find a few crew that are just as keen. Any information you could pass on would be appreciated.
Regards

I was talking about this with Peter Riddle the other weekend down at Western Districts Comp. When he stared as a Junior in the late1970's the Western Districts consisted of Warrnambool, Hamilton, Avoca, Mount Gambier, Port Fairy and Portland clubs ( probably more). Comps location where called on the first Wednesday of the month and held on the last Sunday of the month. 50 to 100 divers would turn up on the Sunday and compete in nearly all conditions. He also talked about the New Years pageant the council used to put on in Port Fairy. The Port Fairy Skin Diving club would have a float with divers in full kit brandishing there weapons and the crowd cheered as they pasted with a dirty big Stingray dragging behind!

Ha, sounds like something you'd see in Port, Being the case of no clubs in the immediate area, is it a realisitc option joining a melbourne club or other state clubs, pretty keen have alook at the competitive scene and meet a few more crew. At the current point of time, there is really only two or three other blokes who i head out with and thats chasing crays (get plenty but need a challenge), unfortunatly my other mates that have been into spearing have decided to be soft.

Who's they youakija?

This has been brought up many times and always gets tossed in the too hard basket. If anyones actually serious about it gather some numbers and share the load, you'll find plenty of help once people believe it'll be followed through with. Other low profile clubs have been started in the SouthEast, it's very doable!

Don't talk to it, just type "askew" (without brackets of course) in to the search bar when you're angry
