bought that spearfishing down under magazine the other week, was impressed with something written.
think it was for some club in qld there competition rules were (cant really remember the exact format, but something like this).

each diver to shoot 3 species and they get points for that species depends how close it was to the state record and on top of that they get to shoot another species to add to their score.

guessing this would promote selective spearfishing etc

anyways i'm not in the club.. but reckon this would be a great way to run a competition, purely because it would keep fish up, instead of shooting 30-80 species in a comp.
any thoughts? hope this doesnt offend anyone, but yeah just wondering why this format hasnt been implemented.

Think u really need to attend a comp. "30-80 species" most Ive ever seen is 14-16!

Each state does their comp scoring different mate, have a look through a few things and ull see what I mean

ive been in comps run this way, it doesnt stop people shooting other fish to try and 'upgrade' their score. those other fish are just not around in at weigh in. see down here people shoot one of each species usually because you get more points for another species rather than a heavier one of one you have already shot. your using your time better to shoot different species not the same ones. by having it by the state record it means you get a better score by shooting another one of the same species. BUT someone might shoot, say a cobia, the record for cobia is something close to 50Kg, youd be pushing it to find one close to that in a comp. but if the record is 5kg for a parrot fish then your better off shooting a 2.5 kg parrot than a 20kg cobia. They all have their good points and their bad points.
