The 2013 Valdes Pairs Competition has been called for the Sunday 5th MAY 2013. Location to be announced. This will be a SUNDAY comp. The dive convenor will post the decision on the Thursday prior on the 'Competitions' thread on the forum. All members welcome. Once again keep an eye on the 'Competitions' thread on the forum for the time, location or any changes from the dive convenor 'the brown mullet'.

Do I recall that this comp paired less experienced divers with more experienced divers?

Location for this comp is at this early stage still to be decided. The forecasts have been all over the place. A decision will be made late Thursday.
I will take the opportunity to remind everyone how this is a great social comp that does not count toward the club aggregate. Take the chance to dive with a partner (as a pair) and share the learning experience.
There are a few special comp rules to follow .
VALDES PAIRS COMPETITION/ STATE PAIRS COMPETITION/PAIRS COMPETITION
44. The rules for individual spearfishing shall apply except that competitors must use one float with 2 rig cords, consisting of one with a maximum length of 4m and the other maximum length 30m.
45. During the competition members of each team may not be more than thirty (30) metres apart.
46. Each diver shall provide a safety watch over his/her partner.
47. The diver on the surface must remain within 4m of the float/ plat, must be holding the tethered line and must not dive.
48. Club series scores for pairs will be calculated from 4 nominated events in the normal club series.

So Organise your gear and a partner.

Why is salt water so far away and the weather so crappy at this time of the year ?

Its ON. Comp Will be held At Fossel Beach (Mornington). Meet at 8.00 for a 9.00 Start. It will be a 4 hour comp with a BBQ at the finish.
Its a pairs comp. Bring your entries filled out and entry fee of $10 (Each) . Usual safety gear required as well as requirements as above post.

Great day on the bay, nice and flat with ~5m vis. 5pairs signed on and covered a lot of ground. Fish included-deep body jacket-other jackets-red mullet-maggie perch-snapper -bluethroat-zebs-duskies-garfish.

Thanks to all the guys that played a part in organising the day. Had a great day. Good fun day with a good group of blokes (including the "girl" at the end with the hoop earrings that wanted to dance with me in the car park)

Thanks, Micheal for putting up with me and for all that didn't make it. Results dont always show the true story? Bottom place finishers also had the heaviest bag for the day.

I thought this comp was supposed to be experienced divers paired with blokes who need to be shown the ropes? 2nd and 3rd on the aggregate pair up and win... Big surprise there!
