Folks,

this holiday I went freediving in Fitzroy Island, just off Cairns (great place, by the way), and, since my stinger suit was a little buoyant -even at 22 meters- I went to the local diving to hire a belt and one weight... well. I was denied it on the ground of "safety regulations in Queensland" " It seems no hiring of equipment to freedivers is allowed -only to scuba divers.

I was so baffled that I did not reply, but I still cannot truly believe it: can someone confirm/deny this ?

The sun melts their Bundy affected brains in Queensland. The guy in the hire shop probably left school at about 12 years old which wouldn't help either.

We have done freediving at quick silver cruise to the Angincourt reefs first and then we dived under the wharf at Green Island and the main equipments we kept with us are dive knives, float & lines, freediving bags, dive lights and weight belts.

I recently went to Hawaii. Hired weights for Myself, Margie and Marcus plus extras, 14x 3lb weights in all. $5.20 for the day, no questions asked! God bless America.

Don't reckon the 'poofters' would agree with that one Paul. Doesn't look like they will be allowed to marry for a while yet.
