Geoff, I believe you can get a 6 month license with the USFA. USFA membership is a requirement. Then you need to pay the South coast skindivers entry. That's what I remember from last year although I failed to make it up there. Cheers

Just checked my email from last year. It is a $40 membership for (april, may, june) for USFA. Fill in the membership for from their web page and post it off. Saves the Guys at the comp doing extra paperwork on the comp weekend. Then turn up on the Sat and register.

The last I heard from AUF executives is that there will be no need to join USFA this year! I will find out and post it soon.

Could someone please assist me and let me know where i can read up on the rules for this comp? Have already looked at previous score sheets which list species/sizes/scoring system.

Thanks

It’s that time of the year again with June approaching and the prestigious Eden 3 Way State Titles competition is only FOUR and a bit weeks away on the weekend of June 9th. This competition has become the largest spearfishing event in Australia usually attracting over 100 divers with more than 40 plus boats registering in the event. Last year 66 divers signed on as the conditions were tough but still very diveable and the results were fantastic for Victoria; Ian Puckeridge took out the event closely followed by our own Rob Torelli in second place and Murray Petersen in a very close third place. Just for those that think they may have to travel long distances at this comp 90% of the competitors did not fish past Mowarry Point and Rob Torelli did not leave Twofold Bay.

This comp attracts all levels of spearos and is a fantastic social event, plus you get the opportunity to dive against some of the best names in Australian spearfishing; past, present and future.

Eden 3 Way State titles is fairly unique as it is held in winter on the far south coast, it is around 600km drive up the Princess from Melbourne and is a one day competition. For those who are not yet initiated may well think, “you guys are crazy, it has to be crap!" Well it actually is some of the best diving on the NSW competition calendar and you could compare the fish life to a temperate Coral Sea. Eden is situated a long distance from any major population centres and this means the fish numbers don’t get smashed. Also at this time of year we sometimes catch the tail end of the EAC, meaning clear water (most of the time), a large fish population as you get a cross over from temperate species and cold water species. To top it all off, there is plenty of shallow water diving with kilometres of coastline to explore, with a water temperature between 12 - 18 degrees. Weather ranges from balmy sunny days to sleet and snow on the surrounding hills. Once you make the trip to Eden, I guarantee you will be hooked. I am, and so are many others, this is why there is such a huge turnout of competitors each year on the June long week end.

It would be great to see a table of Southern Freedivers competing at this fantastic historic event; personally I will be going up a week early again as I love this comp to bits. Top divers usually weigh in around 20 or more species. There is great accommodation in and around Eden, the launching and fish cleaning facilities are excellent and most of all the spearing is first class.

Keep in mind that there is NO SPEAR FISHING THE AREA for 24 hrs before the event. You will be disqualify and if you think you can get away with it, believe me there are eyes ever where on this weekend. The problem this creates for Victorians that want to go up for a weekend of fun usually spear on the Saturday so they don't enter on Sunday. The New South Welshmen get pissed about it because they believe it scares away the fish and they don't get there $75 entry. So if you want to compete and do a bit of social spearing you best travel up on Saturday, compete Sunday and stay on for a few days to stock the freezer. Alternatively go up as you please, spear the be-jesus out of the place and Farrrk the New South Welshmen!

Would Green Cape be within the exclusion zone? How far would we need to be from Eden to dive on the Saturday?

I am not sure how far the exclusion zone, it's all very vague. I think Green Cape would be included, many boats have gone to Green Cape in past years. Some boats go further, Gunther has been known to go as far a Gabo Island.
