Final Call has been made.
The second comp that was to run this weekend has been postponed due to conditions.
There is a dive trip planned for the 13th at Eden and looks like many will attend.
Second comp will now run on Sunday 20th October with the hope that the current weather pattern will have changed and will then allow us have a great dive.

Other details stay the same.
See you all on the 20th.

I will or wont be Paul I will make the call for Sunday tomorrow night. At this stage I wont make the call as it appears that swell may be on the way down so I will give it another day.
Sorry everyone catch you tomorrow night.

Sorry everyone but the comp is OFF this weekend. Swell is going to be too high and there is not an option on the Peninsula.

WSW swell under 2m with a strong northerly wind! Fuck me what a pathetic call, the back of the Schanck would be safe for a dive no problem. You guys have got to get it into your head that its a COMPETITION, not a Sunday picnic. If its safe to dive a comp should go ahead, visibility has nothing to do with it. Even if it was unsafe at the Schank you can call it off at the beach, harden up "Comp Commitee"

Paul u are way out of line! You really have no idea and that surprise me considering how long you've been around! You look at your one weather site( which in my opinion is the worst of all the sites for swell predictions). Solid 2.2 m swell tomorrow punching in at 16seconds, that's a solid ground swell. Good 8ft today at the island. Good call by the boys, not going to be nice at all tomorrow! You continue to make bad calls from behind your desk in Brunswick!

A combination of 4 experienced people were consulted in the process for the comp committee. 3 of those are not on the comp committee. Comp committee sign on was created to remove the responsibility from the one person who usually puts up the post even though the decision is made by others. If you would like to take on the task Paul as chief forecaster then its all yours.

I believe the Comp Committee is owed a public apology from you Paul! 2.6 - 4.6 of rolling thunder on our cost line today. Great call by the boys. So if I was you Paul I'd put up or shut up!

Yes the Schanck was shit, Flinders Pier area was safe. Would have been a very tough comp and a real test of ones metal with 2-4 species winning it. Also with the wind abating the Bay was a surprising good alternative. You see it's the Convener's job to facilitate comps, not constantly wimp out. As the older members of the club know I was Convenor for many years trained up by the great Angy Perna in the proper VUF fashion. Its easy being a Convenor when the conditions are perfect or terrible but when its marginal he has to stand up and be counted. It's his job with the combination of knowledge, gut instinct and leg work to do his very best to make the comps happen. I copped a lot of criticism for calling some wipe outs and praise for moving the comp to some very ordinary locations and am proud of it. Proud because the criticism was for having some balls.

My criticism is to the committee process. This new order of defraying all responsibility for any decision making is not good for the club.
I am not having a go at any individuals, I know them as friends and have the up most respect each of them as individuals. This is just a bit of tough love.

Please for the dinosaurs like me and just for common courtesy can we at least have an explanation posted when a comp in canned on friday night rather then the one liner. Something along the lines of the post that followed my criticism.

Back when I was junior in the 80's I can remember diving comps at Portsea pier in swell with 3 foot vis and on the other side at BP. It had to be really bad for a comp to be cancelled. If there was somewhere safe enough it was on. It was Ange taking me to comps like that that took my diving to the next level.
