breath normally, and for your last breath breath a little deeper. That's what I was taught anyway.

Do a freediving course - it'll teach you all this stuff

Are there any that run in Melbourne area? If so, what are the prices?

Look up Erez Beatus (Apnea Australia) or Walter Steyn. Both run their own freediving courses in Vic.

I competed a course with Erez the other week.
You will learn all about breath up, recovery or hook breath ( very important ) technique, rescue ect
Worth doing a course

I have followed a bit of William Trubridge's writings and i really like how he explains the breath up and goals of an effective breath up. I recommend reading this page to anyone who is a bit unsure about the ways and reasons to breath up. Goto http://williamtrubridge.com/writings/ and then read the section titled "The breathe up"

Hope this helps and like the guys said, doing a course is always going to be best, if you can afford to get along to one.

That's a great article written by William, worth a read for sure.

It's a really personal thing the dive preparation, but the key factor is consistency. If the preparation can become like an auto-pilot process, then relaxation will be maximised and as William says, the oxygen saturation levels will be optimised. The key is to develop a good preparation and recovery breathing process and do it well and consistently every time. In addition, training with a buddy on dry land or in the pool, doing CO2 tables and the like will help with adaptation and tolerance levels.

Cheers,

Marlon
