Guys,

I know that we each have our favourites for different conditions, but I thought I would start a Poll and see how many responses we end up with.

So, What's your most commonly reached for gun length on your average dive?

Throw in your comments after you have voted and we might just help someone make a better decision.

Me personally its a 110cm. That's my general purpose gun that I grab first.
I also have a 130cm for blue water or clear water diving, and a 120cm reel gun and they are generally used in that order of preference.

Chris

I put 90 as there was no 75cm or handspear option.

I'm in the water a lot. I used a 1m religiously for the past 10 years and swore by it.

Just recently I've started using a 90cm gun and am absolutely loving it. In the bay and also ocean side. I've shot most of what Vic has to offer with the 90 with the exception of kingfish & tuna.

I saw a bit of that Destination Blue show on 31 and they were highly recommending 110cm guns for beginners in Vic. IMO that is overkill. I didn't watch anymore of it after that.

90 is what I use the most
100 has been the best all-round option
110 good gun for deeper water it tends to get clumsy in the shellows

Like the Puss says, 1m best all around for Vic.
Hand spears are awesome for a challenge. Anyone spears a good whiting or snapper with a hand spear and I will buy them a slab.

I usually use a 90cm gun wherever I go, really easy to use in most water depths. I have 2 reel guns, a 115 and a 110 that I use when I go to Queensland and I use for deeper water, I also have a 40cm for hunting flatties in the shallows. My personal pick would be a 90cm for the average dive.

Similar response to Hilly. Used both 90 & 100. And even though there is no major difference in length. Have found that a 90cm in Vic waters is slightly more maneuverable for snapper snooping, shallow water flattie hunting and when salmon are circling.

First in with a good fish I will honor my statement. I get to decide what is Good though. 1kg snapper won't cut it. Goodluck.

I've never used a smaller gun than a 110. Might have to give a 90 a go.
