Message from Geoff (Club President)

Hi Guys/Gals,

We've just released our 17/18 calendar.

Really excited on what we've got in store this season. For those that are unaware we have recently moved our club meeting location. Our new meeting room venue is Club Noble a current sponsor of the SFD where we recently held last seasons presentation night. Our next meeting will be on the 29th Aug and will continue as per calendar to be on the last Tuesday of every month.

Onto comps for those that attended last season we had good attendance and competitive competition in most of our grades. Of note was the increase in attendance of our junior division with much higher numbers than previous years. And talk so far leading into this season is it that there's a good chance we will have even more junior competitors.

On other comp news the old man of the sea has introduced a new trophy which will be a hand spear category and we will also be revamping the Kingfish Cup so stay tuned.

So a quick breakdown:

There are 10 competitions in total: 8 aggregate and 2 non aggregate the pairs and Kingfish cup.
There will be one less comp on our calendar the Port Fairy Boat comp (non aggregate) run by shipwreck coast due to lack of participation.

Last year we found having the flexibility to not cement in exact comp locations on the calendar allowed the committee to get all 10 comps in, by being able to change locations based on weather forecasts. (Its been years since we've been able to get all comps in). This year will be no different and hopefully the weather gods will be good to us.

This year our aim is to dive in a few new locations for 3 reasons:
- Try our best not to impede on this year state titles zone and also next years 2018 nationals.
- Its great to mix up things a little and dive some new locations or areas we haven't been to in a while.
- By not hitting the same locations its good for ecological sustainability

And don't worry we still have some of the more popular attended events from previous years still on our calendar eg Sorrento & Newhaven boat comps, & Western Districts to name a few.

Look forward to meeting some new faces and seeing some old. And i encourage both new and old to signup and continue and grow the fun & tradition of the Southern Freedivers.

-Geoff

Hi All,

See attached for the updated competition calendar. Only 1 change to it where we will be holding the Bluefin Battle.
This has no exact date and will be scheduled in to one of the spare weeks around March (depending on when the tuna show up).
