2020 Victorian state titles are fast approaching! this year we'll be diving along the bass coast/Phillip island area with some Mornington Peninsula spots as a backup. The competition is planned for the labour day long weekend 7/8/9th March, Monday will be the backup day if Saturday or Sunday are unsafe. Theres camping options, or houses for rent, on Phillip island and all along the coast for people travelling interstate.
All AUF members welcome!
Keep an eye out on our facebook page or on the 'competitions' thread on the forum for the time, locations or any changes.

This is a two day competition.

Victorian state titles day 1, Cats Bay, Phillip Island.

It seems the apprentice has become the master! Watto just passing Muz by 1 fish! It’s going to be a close battle tomorrow as Murray won’t be giving up easily.
26 divers signed on with 2 SA divers gracing us with their presence, and Geelong Freedivers also had representatives.
All divers were met with flat seas with Vis around the 8m mark with a bit of haze. The tide was running out all day which meant a hard slog back to sign off for those adventurous folk who swam all the way to the nobbies. Fish were sparse but patchy with a good area producing a few species at a time. There were plenty of sweep and zebra fish swimming around as well as the man eater dusky morwong, thankfully some divers brought in some fine specimens, no doubt saving a life in the future.
Many divers gave reports of sharks cruising around, Blake reported a Thresher shark out at the nobbies while Dave reported a BIG Seven Gill shark giving his fins a taste (his wetsuit may need a clean).
Kim and Dave cut it close signing off with 2 minutes to spare. 2 other divers were DQed for lateness.
All in all it seemed everyone had a fun dive and are ready for tomorrow’s dive at cape schanck. We hope to see you all there. The day 1 scores are as follows

Nathan Watson 11 species 1212.7pts 100%
Murray Petersen 10 species 1127.7pts 92.99%
Blake Riddle 10 species 1108.55pts

Day 2 of the Victorian state titles was held today at Cape Schanck with 23 divers signing on.
Conditions were as predicted, strong easterly winds with a slight swell. This allowed divers to dive either side of the point which allowed everyone to spread out. Visibility was the same in most areas, around 10m~
Normality was restored with Muz winning the day with 16 species, well a head of Kim with 13 species, Watto followed closely behind with 12 fish.
Mitch learnt the hard way as to why divers take spare rubbers, he was out of the water by 11:25. He still managed to pull in 10 species which is a solid effort.
There were a few solid crayfish pulled up too
At the end of the day there were smiles all round capping off a sold 2 days of diving.
Thank you to everyone who helped organise the weekend both prior and in the day, many people don’t understand the effort that goes into these big events. Top job, it all ran smoothly.

The results for day 2 are as follows:

Murray Petersen (16 fish) 1872.05pts
Kim Adair (13 fish) 1504.85pts
Nathan Watson (12 fish) 1358.15pts
Dave Scholefield (11 fish) 1235.05pts
Mitchell Kornberg (10 fish) 1131.15pts
Blake Riddle (10 fish) 1129.5pts

Paul Dorf (9 fish) 1020.3pts
Dean Riddle (8 fish) 883.95pts
Chris Rogers (7fish) 807.7pts
Jarvis Espie (7 fish) 765.55pts
Spencer Gubbins (7 fish) 754.5pts
Joseph Bednarek (6 fish) 675.1pts
Galin Dimitrov (6 fish) 675.1pts
Odie Charles (4 species) 462.55pts
Nam Luong (4 species) 431.1pts
Pencil (4 species) 423.7pts
