Great day, it has died off in the bay a bit now, the spots that usually produce are pretty empty.

Fair play to all the organisers of the competitions for the year. All comps done without a hitch. I've had some of my most enjoyable dives during the competition season, most notably Woolamai and Sorrento BB with 15m viz. Good Job!!

Great Season, looking forward to next year already.

I thought this comp was supposed to be experienced divers paired with blokes who need to be shown the ropes? 2nd and 3rd on the aggregate pair up and win... Big surprise there!
So who was the more experienced out of you and Paul? Got me buggered were you get this comp is about a newbie and an experienced diver teaming up. Drew and grant?? You must have had your eyes closed at previous Valdies comps 8) It's about promoting safe diving with a pair

The Valdes was originally for introducing novices and juniors but evolved into the Victorian pairs championship, mainly because novices rarely turn up. Perhaps we should have two divisions and trophies within the one comp, Victorian Pairs Champions and the Novice Champions.

Why not have the Valdez in the warmer months to attract more divers and have the last comp of the season over at Eden or somewhere out that way.

There wasn't many yesterday if you were going to split it into categories.

Didn't realize it was the Vic pairs comp exclusively. I thought after the year Paul and I were cheated ;) it was changed back? Wasn't the one recently held at Fingal like that? Didnt Devries win it with a novice?

Just seems kinda silly that the top guys can dive together and pretty much guarantee a win. 1st with 8 species then 2nd with 3?

I reckon maybe a rule that pairing has to be staggered on the ag? First can only dive with 6th or lower, 2nd with 5th, 3rd with 4th etc?

And I like Fitzy's thoughts on changing when its held!

Trent pulled out on Watto 2 days before hand, so it wasn't planed. If a novice had asked me before hand I would have taken them. Fitzeys idea is great in a perfect world, we have to factor in Nationals, club comps, school holidays and the KFC all in 2 months (jan feb) we jam a lot into our calendar, probably more than any club in Australia. And now the new club is starting up over west they will be running comp that I'm sure a lot of SFD will attend. We had 7 divers at an aireys comp, should we can that comp???

As a novice id like to learn from an experienced diver. Out of all the comps i was looking forward to this one the most due to believing the above. I know its very hard due to availabilities. I asked 2-3 experienced (A grade) divers but they either couldnt make it or already had a partner.
Maybe as another idea you get paired up on the day by a selected official or random draw. A with B or lower. If you have to many A graders and they pair togethor halve their points or create some sort system to make scoring harder or easier if its two B grade divers etc.

Just an idea i know the main issue is numbers!

Geoff

Completely understand what your saying Muzz, I just thought its was primarily for novices/safety awareness etc.

Well, I quite enjoyed the comp. Great weather, nice new location for me and shot a few fish which was good. Enjoyed my new 5mm Wettie which worked a treat in the cool water. Got to meet a few new people and paired up with Geoff. Nice Esclapez fins Geoff! Big float too worked a treat carrying back the booty! I thoroughly enjoyed eating cuttlefish the next morning for breakfast! What a way to start the day. Thanks to the comp organisers for putting on the bbq at the weigh in as I was pretty hungry after the four hours of comp time. Running back up the beach with minutes to spare to sign off though was pretty tough but we got there.
See you all tonight at the meeting.

Muzz would have asked you but i thought you had a partner for sure. As for the A graders i rang and asked Rhino and Watto 3 weeks ago when i got back from Malaysia. I also asked Fitzy (C grade) bout a week ago.
