Drove to Queenscliff in the wee morning hours today in search of the elusive squid amidst favorable reports, swell was to some extent manageable however visability granted us a mere 10cm....Saw a total of 3 parrot fish...i think.

Lasted half an hour in the murky waters before embarking on a leg burner swim against the current back in to shore.

Not happy with the result of the dive and still itching to kill some fish the buddy and I weighed the options available to us. After much consultation and discussion...the only viable option was....get this - to catch the ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento and dive mornington...HA!

Ended up diving Schnapper point with a whopping 1.5 metre vis and some chop...for - some goaties and leatheries...

Least the ferry ride was a laugh!

Lots of bubble divers there today.

Peace

ha great stuff! thats dedication

Hey everybody! I'm andy so i'm new to all this stuff but i thought i might tell you about my most recent dive at Anglesea main reef.

Vis was about 4-5meters, not great but typical of this area...Swam out and upon approaching the reef dived down on a sand patch...waited...waited....air is good.....waited.....no need for air Andy...waited....whats that? wow.....that would be a large snook! please come closer!!! Never speared one before, no, swim toward me!! AIR!....

the snook was gone and i had pushed it a bit far for diving solo...

I was pumped though, after watching Rhyno films i knew now what was a respected fish and what wasn't. I left alone all the undesirables in search of snook, whiting, trevally, squid and all the tasty ones.

No more snook sighted but i ended up hitting my first trevally, they were hanging around this massive black smoothy. Knocked off the two big ones and both were above 1ft, I was stoked. Also speared a squid which turned out to be a good shot, and i couldn't pass up the opportunity to get my favourite leatheries... I know they're not sought after but i love them alot and reckon they're dam underrated.

I missed 2 luderick on the way in which pissed me off but was happy with the days catch. ended up with 2 very nice trevally, 1 thumper leatherjacket, 1 southern calamari and 3 huge abs...

Not as good as the Rhyno man but I was stoked!!!

Will try and get the pick off of my phone soon...Cheers!!!

Andy lives to dive

Thanks Brett and Jai..

Cleaned up the post. Malcoad you might also want to consider how you finish a post, considering one of the club members just lost a good mate to SWB! (If you don't know what SWB is, best you look it up)

Saturday 6/12. Even less swell than yesterday. Annoying west wind. Shot outside (very early) and headed for a magic lump that comes up from 19metres. Visibility 15 metres horizontal. Tons of fishlife. Practices up and down a lot. Then flew out to the 90ft Submarine. Viz even better. No other boats. Had the place to myself. Tons of quality fish including some Warehou which did not play the game. Conning tower clouded with big Barber Perch. Took 3 monster Sweep, the biggest being a tad over 1200gms. ( long way to go for Sweep but they were massive ) . Wandered back to a magic reef behind Portsea and extracted a Crayfish that I had seen the day before. While here I shot a nice big Banded Morwong. Home by 10:30 am.

Fri 5/12 Kenett river..good vis 6-8mtrs, no swell. Between the four of us, nothing...some small crays seen in impossible places and the only fish worth mentioning were some big whiting..very scared and fast big whiting..in saying that..we went home empty handed.

Sat 6/12 Aireys Inlet, vis excellent 8-10mtrs and no swell. Hundreds of undersized crays, fish life was abundant, made up for the shit day we had yesterday. Head count for the day....trumpeter, salmon, leatheries and a cray. Great day great company!

Peace

Went for a dive out West yesterday afternoon at a protected reef.

Beautiful conditions inside the reef, flat as a tack with very little wind, and good 8-10m vis. Cruised through the weed beds and found an absolute shitload of KGW's (my first seen whilst diving). Ended up shooting two of them in 3 hours, should have had a lot more.

I found I could not get close enough to them at the start of my dive, and quickly learned than any agrressive movement will get them moving off at light speed very quickly. Towards the end of the dive, I was becomign more relaxed and ended up diving down outside of the beds and the fish started coming in. It eas my first really challenging dive in terms of skitty fish, and I really enjoyed the hunt!

Even thoguh I only shot two fish in the 3 hours, I really enjoyed the hunt. Lastly, do trevally often cruise around in schools with other fish? I saw two of them for the whole day. Both times, they were quite large and were in a school of Zebra fish.

Cheers,

Tom
