just looking for some info on goat fish, whats the leagal size? how big do they get? how do they taste? thanks paddy |

as of 1st of march this year any fish not listed in the fishing regulations guide has a bag limit of 5 (goatfish isnt in there), but there is no minimum size |

as far as i'm aware goat fish are known as red mullet....& mullet (all species) have a bag limit of 40. (refer to page 32 of the new fishing guide) correct me if I'm wrong though. Are they a under a different Family |

im pretty sure they arent related and red mullet is just like a slang name so i wouldnt get more than five but maybe one of the more experienced divers can tell us for sure. |

red mullet / goat fish (mullidae), unrelated to the true mullet (mugilidae) |

Goaties are sometimes protected by spearproof scales or some sort of force field, especially those around the islands off pt. kembla NSW, Shadow should be able to confirm this |
