Does anyone know what the mimimum legeal size is for leather jackets? And also if it goes for all lj species.
Had a look around the fishvictoria.com site and found no info on leatheries at all. If there is an internt site
that has a more comprehensive database would like to know too.
Thanks in advance.

You could try the Victorian DPI Fishing Guide.

i was wondering this about 4 months ago. i had a look at the guide and found nothing on leatherjackets. I rang the dpi and they said they couldn't answer and they got my info address ect and they sent me another bloody fishing guide, i have 4 now. I am under the understanding that if they are not listed then they go by the 40 fish per day rule. Correct me if i am wrong.

There is no legal size in Vic for Leather Jackets. This said, please dont shoot anything too small, you won't get much meat off the littln's anyways.

Dan.

if there is a fish thats not in the fishing regulations guide then i think you can generaly take them with no size limit and a catch limit of 40 but like danny said dont go shooting heaps of little ones, only take what you need.

Thanks for the response guys. Don't worry i do leave the littlens, they wouldn't fit on my spike anyway. I usually guesstimate the smallest i shoot about 30 cm.
And just out of curiosity has anyone ever experienced twitching leatherjackets after guting and beheading them?
When my wife put some salt on them before cooking them they started to twitch all over for a good few minutes. But only happened when the salt was put on. They had been caught only a couple hours earlier. Is this normal for other fish too?

Good man,

30cm is a about the size you want to start taking them... never heard of salt twitches, def have had after death twitches a few hours later, happens in many fish, thinking it may be a coincidence.

Can't believe I missed this. Any fish not listed has a catch limit of 5.
Please don't post about shit you know nothing about. In this case it could have got someone in trouble with the law.

Greg, on page 32 DPI book, it says the limit is 40 for all scale fish except the ones listed. Since leatherjackets aren't listed, doesn't this mean their limit is 40?

That's 40 in total mate. Page 32 of mine says "for each species of fish not listed in pages 32-62 a bag/possession limit of 5 applies."

Ah right my bad, was looking at the older guide.
The newer one makes it nice and clear that 5 is the limit...

You guys

You really need to get the current DPI Vic Rec Fishing Guide 09/10 prior to
throwing "possible" numbers around willy-nilly. ( anyone with current Vic. Fishing Licence will have this information along with the guide - if not get one ! )
Please look at the top of page 35 for Blinky`s answer to his initial question,
or peruse a bit closer.
