Do yourselves a massive favour and get a hold of the full report. Read the entire document very carefully. Then formulate your opinion.

The above link is worth a read. Basically says a GW takes twice as long to take a bait with the shield turned on. I am guessing that may give you a chance to escape or see the beast first before it attacks and GTFO of the water. It is also stated that it is not a test with humans. And it does not simulate the use the shield is intended for.

I hope they remove the compulsory vote in this country, then perhaps our government would improve as people who are easily swayed by the media would not bother to have a voice.

Looks like the media didn't do its homework and read the whole study! Somethings of note: 1.The tests were conducted in an extreme, unrealistic environment where there's shark cage diving and the water was chummed. It has been demonstrated that chumming changes shark behavior. 2. For the tuna tests the unit was placed within 2-3m, and when SS was ON the length of time doubled from 122 seconds to 244 seconds for the shark to take the bait. 3. Seal decoys were towed behind a boat at 8-10km per hour with a SS ON and suspended at 2 meters and there were NO surface breaches. 4. When the same seal decoys were towed with the SS OFF there were 16 surface breaches. The purpose of Shark Shield is to safely get to shore or a boat in the event of a shark sighting, not to swim with sharks. This study demonstrates that Shark Shield creates more time to get to safety and decreases breaches, just as intended. Why would't you wear one? Oh, yea, and they don't attract sharks.

Oh, and there's some more cool footage that went up a few days ago. Here's footage from Terra Australis of a hammerhead chomping on the ESDS unit! They did tests with the SS and it didn't get chomped. http://vimeo.com/51332864

95% of attacks occur in water less than 2 metres depth. Don't become a statistic.......avoid 2 metres

After i saw this diver had shark shield I realised this diver wants safety in case. I had encountered nuisance ray chasing me for the fish i shot early this year. Just surprised seeing shark shield for the first time especially in bay close to shore. After i finished diving. I saw the red floater flag at about 500 m away from shore approx 5 m depth. Summer is approaching. Just curious if any of divers from this group wearing shark shield?

Heaps of sharks at williamstown the shallower the bigger they get. Wouldn't risk it if I was you.

Thanks for the warning advice. Never seen one nearly 4 years spearfishing in shore bay. I should consider purchase shark shield.

I did see a big bitch of a bronzey at Willy a couple of years ago. There isn't much scarier in 2m vis when you have dead fish in your hand.
